Get Involved

There are many benefits to becoming a NIRSG volunteer! Membership is free and we offer specialist training in field monitoring techniques based on best-practice guidelines that have been developed over many years by raptor experts from across the UK and Ireland. These techniques differ between species and habitats and they help fieldworkers to record, interpret and report their observations.

We also provide regular training workshops to ensure our seasoned and less-experienced fieldworkers are collecting data consistently and uniformly across the country. For new members there may also be opportunities to participate in fieldwork alongside an experienced mentor.

Members are invited to attend our annual spring conference, as well as an annual All-Ireland conference where we join with colleagues from the Irish Raptor Study Group. These gatherings provide an opportunity to learn about local and national raptor projects as well as international studies by invited expert speakers.
